Let us get down to Earth again!
After all that, you probably wonder where to find a cheap accommodation in Dubai? As usual, I searched for the least expensive hotel in town... That took me half a day! I ended up finding this room of 8 m2 (26 square feet) at the Al Esteqlal hotel, very close to Gold Souk; its price: 17 dollars a night... a record for Dubai! But this photo does not show the unhealthy toilets at the end of the hall, the multitude of cockroaches which run on the fitted carpet and the stench which emerges from everything! This small hotel rarely gets Western tourists, and as it was explained to me, my tiny room had been occupied previously by 4 Iranians who came to look for work in Dubai, and that they "made the kitchen" on the ground... which explains the nauseous odor of the fitted carpet! |
