The dances and performances follow one another in front
of an attentive public... But something is really shocking for the Westerner that I am: observe this photograph well... Dubai has the reputation of being the most open and tolerant Emirate of all the Arab states... However, when the guests arrive, the men are requested to go sit down on one side, and the women on the other, a solid barrier separating them!! It is the same in public transportation, the front of the buses being reserved to the women, the back to the men! Even if some people wouldn't agree, I could not avoid making the following equation: Islam = apartheid for women! |
