The social position of the woman is not easy in the Arab countries
which are strongly influenced by fundamentalist Islam.

Especially, as here, in the countryside, naturally more traditionalist, where the women float like phantoms, immured behind their tchadors.

I could not help thinking of the debate on the Islamic veil which provoked a rage in France in this beginning of 2004...

Everyone is entitled to an opinion on the subject, but for me, after this visit in the United Arab Emirates, my mind is made up!
